I'll state it now, I got these when they were on sale. Plus I was interested in giving Audio Technica a try, so perfect timing. Especially when the previous headset I bought broke, which were cheap as I was waiting to get a better set from my previous set snapping unfortunately.Fist off, I will start with using it on PC. I will say I read some of the negative reviews and noticed things they said when trying them. One was the mic not working or supposedly not working. Well, I ran into the issue of my mic not being detected for sure. So that could have been the problem with them as well. It took awhile, but I somehow got it to detect it. Most likely having it plugged up and restarting the computer helps a lot. Now as for how the mic sounded??? Well, it does have some type of sound pick up or something. For sure it was making noise when I had it standard. However it went away completely when I went into the standard properties settings in windows, clicked enhancement and added a noise suppression. Wasn't there anymore at all for me. It's work I know, so it's your choice if that's a downside for you already as it's always probably going to be there technically. Then there is the fact that the mic is always there and you can't just take it off. The plus side though is that the extended plug gives you plenty of cord, so you can have no worries with that.Next was the sound. Now, I will say this. The standard sound is definitely on the low side. Probably a big negative for many, but the sounds is perfectly fine in my opinion. This is of course coming from someone who watches tons of shows, games for hours and so on though. I'd consider this a bit more of an upgrade from a cheap or standard headset for sure, but not a premium $300 type headset for sure. Of course that doesn't mean some video still won't be loud and destroy your ears on something like Youtube or such. Since all volumes on videos vary, I mean for windows in general. Like if you were to open windows player, music player or anything on your PC. Still, if the sound is an issue then not to worry completely. It's an EASY fix if you mess with the properties settings like with the mic. Just click the loudness Equalization and things will become louder for you. Depending on certain videos though, it may seem lower than if it's off. However, that's just the video. Also if you want to change the sound up, just mess with the Equalizer setting. It really helps to improve how loud the sound is as well. I recommend doing that as it gives such a huge boost in sound loudness. I do keep my volume around 50 to 70 though. Someone did mention one side of their headset started dying on them after having it on 100, from it being so low to them. Also it helps to not blow you ears out from the difference in videos on other sites likes reddit or youtube, as the changes to settings does increase it a lot for those. It would always be low for any video when standard, but changes it to where you'll have it half way or lower. Which is a big improvement compared to my last headset, which always needed more than half on the volume or max all the time. Now, another big question. Is it comfortable? Not as comfortable as I wished, but I don't think I've ever felt comfort from any headset that had leather cups. So do keep that in mind. Still, it is a bit tight for me. However, not as tight as the cheaper set I had before, which did loosen up over time. So maybe these will loosen up over time and they will be perfect after a bit more use.Another question would be do they work for console? Well, yes they do. I have used these on my xbox and they work fine. In fact, the sound is much louder from the standard plug in on PC. So it's a bit odd that it sounder much louder on console initially than on PC. Either way, they sounded perfectly fine. However!!! The mic becomes the problem when playing on console. Remember that sound that is captured on PC? Well you can't get rid of that on console, so it'll always be heard for others on console. If you can mute after talking, then your fine. Which is actually a habit I've had for a long time now, so I have no problems. I'm sure many don't have this habit and probably won't be able to continuously mute. So that'll be the issue for you to consider with this. Before I forget, with the mute switch. I only tired it on console. So I have no idea if it's extremely loud on PC as someone mentioned in a different review. However, when I used it on console. I was told it wasn't that loud. It was just a small noticeable sound that could be heard. It wasn't ear piercing or anything to them. As for the the mic picking up game audio during use, again. No one was able to hear a thing from my side when using it. When it comes to the volume control, I never use it. I keep it maxed out and don't touch it as I've always had bad experiences with them causing issues with my headsets on any headset I've had. Just like I've always had every turtle beach headset break on me after little use, for some odd reason. So, is it a get? If you want to use them as a PC only headset, I see no huge problems with it. All the things I mentioned could easily be solved by messing with the settings and taken away. The only issue would be comfort for you when it comes to using them. I use them all day and I do mean all day, as I have all my previous headsets. I do notice some discomfort though, as it's probably not normal to wear headsets all day. NOW, if you want them for console. I don't strongly recommend them because of the mic. If your gonna mute to talk or not use the mic at all, then go for it. The only issue would be the mic being an annoyance for others after all.Overall, I'd recommend it based on certain factors that depend on your gaming needs really.I was very happy with my headset, it was comfortable, light and the mic was very good, I’d gotten compliments on how crisp I sounded. One day I put them on and no one could hear me. They didn’t fall or get stepped on, it just stopped working. I suspect the cheap looking mute button is the culprit but I don’t know. They’re still under the 2yr warranty and I’ve reached out to them to get a new cord. I’ll bump this review up to 4 if they do or drop it 2 if they don’t but all in all I’ve really enjoyed them up till it broke.Update: They sent out a new mic and cord which arrived a few days later. Customer service was quick and I’m bummed there was an issue but I happy it was resolved quickly. They're fine. The "Premium" is marketing speak. Don't expect ATH-M50s (or even M40s ) plus a mic for this price. They seem to be based on the ATH-PRO5 DJ headphones, both in basic design and driver size (44mm vs 45mm in the M50s, 40mm in the M40s). Keep in mind, these are the PG1s which are the closed-back version, the PDG1s are open-backed and have 40mm drivers. These are super comfortable, even when wearing glasses. I got them to replace a pair of Plantronics Rig 500 Pro's which broke. I thought most gaming headphones in the sub-100 range (and often above) looked silly or were garbage or both. The Plantronics weren't comfortable and I often had to cut my gaming sessions short because my head started to hurt. I can wear these for hours. I used to just use my speakers when gaming solo but now I like to wear these. They are a revelation when playing Rez Infinite. In other games like Fallout 76, footsteps and gunshots are very clear.I've had no complaints from my teammates about these. I don't have the issues others have reported about the remote, the volume and mute controls seem fine. Maybe I got lucky. The mic seems really good, I had to move it away from my face, my voice was so loud on the team.Sound wise, the bass seems boosted (the bass drum in BLACKPINK "As if it's Your Last" is huge), there seems to be a cut somewhere in the mids (low mids?) and I have no complaints about the treble. I wouldn't want to use these for music production but they're good for listening to music, especially on my phone.I really like that you can swap the cords out for gaming and smartphone. These cords have a block on one end that slots into the phones so they're not accidentally pulled out. There is also a really long cable extension with a splitter so you can plug it into the back of your PC. I game on both PS4 and PC so it's nice to have that. The PG1s don't particularly look like gamer phones, more like something from the 80s or 90s and not necessarily in a good way. The gold accents are tacky, the outside of the cans have a piano black plastic middle - piano black is a design trend that should have stayed in the 00s. (These came out in 2014) They're shaped a lot like good old Sony MDR-V6/7506s, except unlike those, these don't fold. I wish they'd gone with a more minimal design like the PRO5s have or a more M50-like design. The ATH-G1s have replaced these and they have a more M50 design, though the G1 headband looks wack and unlike these, the G1 mic detaches but the cord doesn't. These are cheaper and I'm pretty happy with them.I switched from a set of Sennheiser closed back headphones to these open backed headphones recently. My goal was to achieve a better sound stage and to be able to hear what was going on around me. I needed it to be a headset and I didn't really want it to look garish. These seemed to hit most of the marks, although the design is slightly questionable, but not OTT. What surprised me was how comfortable they are to wear. The clamping pressure seems to be just right - I can often feel where headphones push the arm of my glasses against my head, and these don't seem to cause that. The sound stage is expansive, which is a boon for gaming and music. They are leaky, but at the volumes I use, it's certainly not enough to be distracting - I wouldn't wear them in the quiet carriage on a train, but in noisier areas they shouldn't cause disruption to other people. They don't feel like they let sound in, until something outside happens and you realise you can hear it fine. Perfect for both listening out for a door bell, or trying not to wake the household up when playing games late into the night.I am happy with the audio quality of the headphones - though they certainly aren't reference balanced. The bass has been given a boost, which can be lacking in open backed headphones. You won't find the bass needing. The rest of the headphones balance seems good for me.Three different cables are bundled. A straight, a typical mobile phone mic cable, and a chunkier gaming mic cable. It is the latter that I use exclusively when attached to my PC. The mic is the best sounding I've had for a long time, it's clear and easy to understand. There is a built in volume control with mute button, and this is where the problem is. When muting your mic, the headphone output is fed back into the microphone in channel. A disaster if you're recording or playing with friends as your entire play back is piped into the record channel on your computer. The volume dial on the switch can be described as flaky at best. It seem to smoothly reduce the volume and different channels will drop before the other. Mine has now got to the point (two months after owning it) where the left channel is permanently reduced. I have to heavily squeeze the whole switch unit to get the audio to balance correctly.Unfortunately the microphone is fitted into the headphone cable, which has a "snug" 3.5mm fitting, meaning any aftermarket cable will have to be trimmed down to try and get it to fit into the hole area.I have sent an email to Audio Technica to enquire about a replacement cable. I will update this review if I get a result.Update: Audio Technica are aware of the problem and ask for the item to be sent back to Amazon for a straight swap. The microphone cable (part number 389302670) can be brought directly from Audi Technica for about £50 plus postage.Lightweight and a very comfortable fit and not to tight.Sound quality is good not amazing. I would not recommend for gaming at all as there seems to be a difference between a listen set of headphones and a gaming set.Even though it's says gaming headset there very different to anything I heard before and don't sound right in certain games like pubg for example.I can't put my finger on why they don't sound right but other headsets sound more clean but less able to tell directional sound. These do it so well that it hinders sound quality. The bass distorts a little if something like grenade goes off.I will continue to use as I know you should wear in the drivers so this could be why.Overall definitely not worth £130 and I will end up sending them back as there not anywhere as good as astro a40trs for gaming.I feel like it's important to note that I've previously owned the Logitech G633, HyperX Revolver, HyperX Stinger and currently own theCreative Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament (They could use a shorter name though)I think I'll start with what's great, the microphone. The microphone is honestly just outstanding on this headset, as in it can compare with stand-alone microphones. It's extremely rare to see a microphone this good on a headset, unfortunately, it seems that is where the good things stop. The biggest issue with this headset is the extremely flimsy control box which hardly works. I can't tell if it's just the control box being really poorly wired or what, but this is the biggest let-down on the entire headset. The volume wheel doesn't work, as in it's either at max volume or extremely quiet no matter how much you rotate it. It even ends up causing the audio to be muffled, it's best if you just don't touch it at all. It's audio quality is horrible for this price, especially considering audio-technica are an audio company. The cheaper HyperX Revolver sounds so much better than this.Another massive issue is comfort, the headset just refuses to sit well at all, I had to adjust it every 15 mins or even take it off due to it just heating my ears up so much. It may just be the earpads but it also has horrible sound isolation. They may as well be open-back with how much sound they leak even at low volumes.Honestly, the only reason this even deserves one star is because the microphone is just outstanding, it's a shame the rest of the headsets lets it down so much. I would not recommend buying this at all. I'd look at the Hyperx Revolver or the Sound BlasterX H7 Tournament instead, it just performs so much better than this headset for way less money. At this price point I'd also look into getting a normal headset and pairing it with a modmic.used over 10 headsets and headphones and these do sound rather nice I must admit with a crisp sound and good level of bass thanks to the open back design, but the inner ear cup would rub my ears very quickly. the headphones also feel rather flimsy I must say, definitely NOT premium. even at 60 GBP I had to return themI can listen to music without disturbing others and still hear what others are saying. Most importantly, I can have a conversation over these headphones without accidentally shouting and while clearly hearing what the other people are saying.
