Out of the box I was very impressed with the packaging and initial sight of the headphones. The box is fairly hefty and holds the headphones and accessories very well. The headphones come with a sort of bi-pole adapter and a carrying bag. The adapter is useless in my opinion because it simply splits the left and right audio channels where I would have preferred it to split the microphone and stereo audio. The carrying bag is excellent however, it is a very soft leather-like material with ample space for the headphones. On to the headphones. They are made very solidly with the only real plastic that I can see being the rims of the ear cups. Although metal is used almost exclusively through the design they are fairly lightweight with the actual metal content being reduced with the wire frame that connects the headband to the ear cups. A possible weak point, but I think that it helps the band be a little more flexible and I do not see as it being a weak link in the build. The cushioning in the head band is adequate for the weight of the headphones, along with the cushioning on the ear cups. However, I would prefer to see a little more cushioning on the ear cups as if you do not properly put the headphones on your ears they may cause irritation along the back end of your ears. Another thing to note that I found is that with the headphones toward the back of my ears they would start to pinch my ears against the arms of my glasses. This forced me to place the headphones farther forward of where I normally put them on, but that is a minor issue and will be corrected with habit when adjusting them. The sound quality of these headphones was pretty average in my opinion. I found that the mids were a bit overbearing, but not so much so that vocalists could not be heard. I also noticed that while the highs and lows were lacking, the lows were very controlled and punchy for what they were. Definitely not the kind of sound signature that most Beats by Dre users will be expecting with the very loose overpowered lows. The most important thing that I want to get across about the sound is that it is not tinny. This is very important to me in a pair of headphones that only cost $30 (Amazon has them for $30 at the time of writing with the normal price listed as $80). One last thing I want to note is that the integrated microphone is pretty good. I used the adapter from my Razer Hammerhead Pros to split the audio and microphone so I could use it with my laptop. My TeamSpeak community seemed to think that the audio was okay but not spectacular, but they also thought that it was significantly better than the microphone built into my laptop (Origin EON13-S) and the in-line mic on my Razer Hammerhead Pros.Pros and Cons list then I will make a conclusion.Pros Look good Lightweight Good construction Braded cord coated with plastic In-line mic location (~3 inches down, doesn't hang on your chest) and quality Very quality carrying bag Sound of lows is very controlled Sound quality is not tinnyCons Bi-pole adapter is left/right split not stereo and microphone Lows and highs are lacking compared to the slightly overbearing mids Could use a little more cushoning on the ear cups as they are 'on-ear' Possible to pinch your ears with the arms of your glasses if you prefer the cups to sit farther back on your ears In conclusion I think that for $30 these are very good headphones. I used them as my main use headphones for about 18 hours and am definitely going to continue to use them for my phone and iPod when I am out and about. I think that I may be a little spoiled with my daily drivers as I currently use a pair of Razer Tiamat 7.1's on my desktop and a pair of Razer Hammerhead Pro Earbuds on my laptop. Almost all of my testing was from watching my regular subscriptions on YouTube, listening to 3 of my favorite playlists (Chillstep, Heavy/Melodic Death Metal, and Classic Rock) and talking to people on TeamSpeak while playing Star Trek Online. As an ending note I think that I want to compare these headphones to my Logitech G410's that I won at PAXEast this year; the sound is very similar, they are almost as comfortable, the mic quality is decidedly worse (G410's have a boom mic), but the P614's are much more compact. All in all, I would buy these again especially at the $30 Amazon has them at right now.For the price of $30.99, you'll be hard-pressed to find a headphone with the same quality of comfort and sound as the ARCTIC P614. The box itself is aesthetically pleasing; that is, it's very clean and is a sight for sore eyes. There are three objects inside the box. One of course is the headphone itself, the other two are an adapter that splits the audio into left and right and a bag made out of a soft black leather used for keeping your headphones clean and safe and to store your headphones when you're on the go. The headphone is very light and the earpads are soft. I have a fairly huge head so I was surprised that when I tried to put on the headphones, not only did it extended to sit comfortably over my ears, it also could have expanded even further. After wearing the headphones for about an hour, I did not notice any discomfort other than my ears getting warm but that's usually the case for all headphones. If you wear glasses, you might have to adjust the headphones slightly so the headband sits farther on the back of your head. The earpads press tightly on your ears, which in turn press on the temple tips of your glasses into your head, an uncomfortable experience that slowly gets worse the longer you wear the headphones. Other than that, in terms of comfort, I rate these headphones 8/10. To test the sound quality of these headphones, I played a variety of music ranging from acoustic to EDM. The sound is very crisp and clean when it comes to acoustic, jazz, alternative rock, etc. The bass however is weak, so if you're looking to listen to music with a lot of bass, you will be mildly disappointed; however, that is no concern to me as I do not. It does a nice job of keeping noise from outside sources from coming in so you do not have to worry about being distracted. When using applications such as Skype, the in-line microphone is top-notch. With other headphones that have the microphone extended to near or in front of the mouth, I tend to hit it with my mouth, making a pattering sound that often annoys people who could hear me. Because the microphone is built into the wire, I do not have to worry about that. People on the other end could hear me crystal clear, which is a must. All in all, if you're frugal like me and do not want to overspend on a pair of headphones, the ARCTIC P614 is hard to pass up on. At the price it is listed ($30.99), there are a few to no competitor headphones that provides the same quality. The ARCTIC P614 - Wired Premium Headset with In-line Microphone have been a real surprise. They are quite simple looking, yet remain quite stylish with their chromed finish and black and white patterned head band. The cable is a nice length, measuing approx 110 CM and is finnished in a very nice dark grey. The cable has a smooth plastic coating, but has a braided look to it, adding to the look and design of the P614's.The headband and ear pads are soft and nicely padded and the headband is easily adjusted by sliding the headband away from the ear pad.***** In The Box *****1 x Arctic P614 wired headset1 x Travel Pouch1 x Airplane adapter1 x Instruction Sheet***** Installation / Use *****The heaset is extremely simple to use and requires no setting up (as it is wired), it is simply a case of plugging the headset into your smartphone/MP3 player. After connecting the headset to my Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone and firing up the Google Play Music App, i was blown away by the sound quality of the Arctic P614's, considering their very reasonable price (I do not really have many headsets but i will say that they sound just as good as my Attitude One Almaz headset, which were around £100). I was able to increase the volume of the music to quite an uncomfortable (and not recommended) level, without the sound becoming destorted. When first connecting the headset to my Galaxy S4 and pressing the button on the integrated mic (attached to the cable), the Google Play Music app started and the last played track began to play.Pressing the button again while a track was playing, pauses/started the track.Pressing the button twice in quick succession made Google Play Music skip to the next track. And holding the button down, started Samsung's S Voice application, allowing me to use voice control.Lastly, pressing the button whilst a call is incoming, answered the call and pressing again allowed me to end the call.***** Conclusion *****For around £20 i think the Arctic P614's are incredibly good value for money and would be ideal for commuting/travelling, as the sound quality is extremely good (far better than the earbuds that are included with smartphones/MP3 players), and the headband is quite well padded and comfortable to wear for extended periods (as are the ear pads). As an added bonus, you get a nice travel pouch to store the P614's in, as well as an adapter to enable you to use the headset on aeroplanes. If you are looking and thinking about buying the Arctic P614's, go ahead and do it - i promise you will be impressed.First, the packaging. As you can see, you will be greeted by a white box with a clear picture of the headphones. I like it. It looks clean and fresh. Upon opening the box further the packaging is minimal, which is another plus. I’d rather get it out and start using it without the worry of the mess, warranty leaflets lying about etc….On to testing the headphones. Without trying to deafen myself, I’ve changed my Realtek Equalizer settings to “Party” My preferable choice of sound settings. I’ve used Spotify with the HD Quality streaming enabled. One of the tracks I’ve listened to was “Circles by I See MONSTAS” One of the things I’ve definitely noticed was the sound was clear. The bass wasn’t over saturated. and the treble was tolerable. I would prefer a richer bass sound though. With a bit of tweaking with the equalizer it can be an easy fix.One of the best giveaways about this headphone are the style. The wire is covered with clear “see thru” silicone, it’s also thin which makes it more flexible. If I had a choice, I’d use these over the Beats headphones that are now a common sight outdoors. I’d happily use these all day due to the styling of the headphones and on how comfortable they are. Yes, don’t let the looks give it away, these headphones are a lot more comfortable than my 7.1 headphones (Turtle Beach Z60)For testing the Microphone that’s built on to the cable. I used Skype, chatting with the family they could hear me as clearly as my other current microphone that’s built-in to my webcam. Testing it outside is a whole different scenario as you have to account for the wind passing by. I never Skype outside so I won’t have to worry about that. These headphones are extremely light and comfortable to wear, if you have an larger head like I do it is better to extend them out to full length before adjusting them for a comfortable fit over your ears. The sound quality is excellent, its clear and crisp and you wont have any problems hearing through them. The headphones themselves are solidly built and I can see anything negative about the design and construction of them. The controls are simple and straight forward and easy to reach when your walking, I haven't tried the airplane adapter though so you'll have to find that out for yourselves. The in-line control functions though is nicely done, if your using your phone with these and your listening to your playlist and a phone call comes in you can just answer it and go back without missing any of your music.Very good value for the price. Straight out of the box the headphones feel sturdy in the hand while having enough flexibility to withstand a bit of mishandling. The leather look is quite nice and I quite like the appearance of the cloth effect on the outer of the head band. The box contains a nice looking black leather bag to store the headphones in, though it's nice enough that I'm considering other uses for it :)The headphones themselves are comfortable to wear and the cushioned ear pieces fit nicely on the ear. I found the sound quality to be very good when playing music from my iPod and could quite easily use these for hours without a problem. The ear pieces are adjustable, I'd say I have a average sized head and there's a pretty decent sized gap when I adjust the headphones to maximum extension. They are no £100+ headphones but then they aren't pretending to be. For the price they are very good value and I'd have no issues recommending them to people looking for a set of headphones in this price bracket.Overall a good set of headphones and I've found no reason to complain.Packaging: These headphones arrived in a pleasant looking box, which contained plenty of information as to the contents of the box, as well as all of the specifications of the headphones. The box then opened up to reveal the headphones hooked upon a central pillar within the box that acted as a stand. This pillar then contained the airplane adapter, instructions and a high quality travel bag. Overall, you couldn't ask for more from a box.Appearance: The headphones have a very good looking leather headband, capped at each end by a metal housing for the extendable arms of the earpieces. These arms are two slim pieces of metal which match the housing. The earpieces themselves seem to be made of a high quality plastic, with a very soft cushions on the inside, and a metal disc on the outside with the arctic logo engraved into it. The Inline controller on the wire is smooth and cylindrical, with a single button at the top and a microphone at the bottom. I personally would prefer this control to be slightly further along the cable to make it easier to use. Overall, these are very aesthetically pleasing headphones.Comfort: These are one of the most comfortable pairs of headphones I've ever owned. The headband is very spongy, and the earpieces are very soft. Even after several hours of use, I don't experience any discomfort. My only issue is that they need to be able to become slightly bigger, as whilst I do have a slightly larger than average cranium, I have to have the headphones at max extension, so not great for those with a massive head.Sound Quality: Some of the best sounding headphones you can buy in this price range. Having compared them to a pair of beats that I own (And paid far more for), these provide a significantly better sound.Overall: 9/10 These headphones are superb. They are well built, give a great sound and are comfortable wear. my only issues are with how much you can enlarge them, and the inline controls, however those are just personal issues. These are some of the best headphones you can get for this price range.
