This headset turned out better than I expected. For the price, I was expecting a cheap feeling weak performing device, but it turned out to be anything but. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t look as nice as higher end units, and performance might not be on par. However, I can tell you that it performs as good or better than middle entry devices at double or triple the price. For starters, the headset and ear cups are well made, and feel really comfortable. After a 2 hour game session I could barely feel any pressure in my ears, unlike others I’ve used in the past from name brands.Next, the noise cancelling is excellent, which makes the surround sound great and immersive. I could actually distinguish directional sounds accurately.Another thing I like is the retractable mic; it is the right mix between solid and pliable, so it allows you to position it right where you need it, and the manual retract helps you avoid any damage to the mic during storage, which has happened to me with solid mic assemblies or the folding kind. Mic pick up is also good and overall my team mates could hear me just fine. This headset is also versatile as it can be used with a plethora of devices. As such, it comes with an audio plug and USB male lead. This is where the negatives start for me. I think the USB is an overkill as most devices can register both output and input through the audio jack, so that leaves the USB lead hanging unused while wearing these as it is integrated in the cable.Another thing I found to be useless is on the cable, this device has a volume control and an on/off switch, which makes it redundant as most devices can control the volume output and the on/off cuts the audio/mic instead of just muting the mic. I think a mic mute would have more use and this just makes the cable that much more bulky for no reason.Lastly, this headset has a gnarly set of led powered logos on each ear cup. However, these only work if you connect the headset via USB connection (I tested by plugging the USB lead to the Xbox USB port) and since I’ll be using these with my Xbox controller via the audio jack, it means the led logos are another redundant feature that add little to no value to these. All in all, for the price, these are a very decent pick for your gaming sessions and better performing than the proprietary devices. I will only upgrade once I find a decent wireless set up.
